Mobile app doesn’t consider local travelcard?

Hello everyone,

I noticed today that the mobile app sometimes doesn’t consider that a part of the itinerary is already covered by a local travelcard.

I want to travel from Lucerne Station to my address in Zurich. I have a Half-Fare card and a ZVV pass, both in course of validity and on my Swisspass, visible in the app.

If I look for the entire itinerary, the app suggests IR75 to Zurich HB and then tram n. 3, and the price for a ticket is 15.40 CHF. But if I look for the itinerary to Zurich HB it suggests the same IR75 train for a price of 13.50 CHF.

As I already have a ZVV pass, the app should offer, in the ticket selection for the entire trip, only the ticket for the Lucerne-Zurich HB leg, for 13.50, not 15.40.

Nope, nowhere is stated that the SBB Mobile app does consider local transport passes. This is only true if you travel within ZVV, for zone extension tickets.

Use EasyRide if you need a travel network cross-border ticket or purchase the ticket to Zurich HB, or Thalwil respectively if zone 150 is part of your ZVV subscription.

… and you take an IR75 which stops in Thalwil. In IR70 (which doesn’t stop in Thalwil) you need a ticket already until Zürich HB regardless of your ZVV monthly / yearly pass.

It’s true that the app never promises to do that. I was under the impression that it would, because for trips inside a local zone it does. For example for a Zurich-Winterthur ticket it offers both a 6-zone ticket and a 4-zone extension.

Nevertheless, I think that it would be a good feature to add. Currently there is no in-app flow to search for a connection and then buy only the ticket for the part of the travel that is not covered by existing travelcards.

Tafunge25 my question did not concern the Thalwil-HB part, but the HB-Siemens tram connection. I am not sure how to understand your reply

It does for all journeys within the ZVV fare region (more or less within the canton of Zürich).

My response was a clarification for the case you intend to buy a ticket only from Zürich HB or a later station. The rule is that you can combine a point-to-point ticket (that is, a ticket for journeys across fare region borders) and a zone ticket only if the train stops.
If you do not have a ZVV subscription until Thalwil, this sidenote does not matter for you at all.

When you select a specific connection and buy a regular (not supersaver) ticket for it, that ticket is actually valid usually all day and therefore would also allow you to use different, e.g. later connections. But that alternate connection could have more or less stops than the ‘original’ (see that Thalwil example), and therefore a ZVV subscription might cover a bigger or smaller local part of that entire alternate journey.
Therefore if the system would be able to deduct the ‘ZVV part’ just based on the connection you initially selected, but then you decide to take a different one having less stops, you could end up with a partially invalid ticket without realizing it.

Nevertheless, the feature you are missing already exists and actually even works… But only with EasyRide, which is retrospectively calculating the correct ticket(s) based on those connections you actually traveled on, and also considers subscriptions referenced on your SwissPass.
