Hi, I am planning to buy a Half Fare travelcard. The purchase includes delivery of a Swisspass card as I do not currently have one. However, I am a foreigner and am residing overseas. Does the delivery of the Swisspass card cover overseas addresses and how long will the delivery take?

If not, will I be able to send the card to my hotel at Switzerland instead?

If you are a tourist, you are looking at the wrong product. The Swiss Half Fare Card is destined to tourists. It is valid for a total of 30 days.

The confusion may come from the fact that the tourist offers were named Swiss Pass until 2014, yet are offered since as Swiss Travel Pass to which the Swiss Half Fare Card as well as the Swiss Family Card do belong, too.

The Half Fare Card is the product for residents. Latter can be bought by tourists too, for example if they stay several months, yet they have to provide an address in Switzerland to which the Swiss Pass card is dispatched. The card is not sent overseas.

Thank you for the reply! In this case I will be staying in Switzerland for around 6 months and will likely be getting the travelcard.

I was wondering if it would be possible to set my address when I am ordering the travelcard to perhaps a hotel I am staying at when I arrive early next month. However, I understand there are delays with the manufacturing of the cards.

Yes, this is possible. And you have to make sure you are going to cancel the contract right after receiving the card. The resident’s half fare card has an auto-renewal mechanism. You can cancel it from your SwissPass account or at any station. It will remain valid until the last day of validity yet will not renew.

There is no need to buy the Half Fare Card in advance, you can still do it when you got here, for example at the airport’s SBB Travel Center. When you will buy the Half Fare Card (online or at the counter), you will get a replacement ticket valid for the period until your physical card is dispatched to the given address. You can later add your card to the SBB Mobile App, so you can show your card from the app.
