Hi. If I book a ticket from Zurich to Interlaken, there is an option to go via the Lucerne-Interlaken Panaroma Express which will take approx 2 hours 45 mins. The 2nd route on the Panaroma Express is marked “R” which indicates that Reservation is possible, however, I’m not able to do it online. The Q&A says for scenic trains, we need to engage a ‘public transport point of sale’ for seat reservation. Question - how do
I do that? Can it be done in advance, rather than at the station?

Yes, you have to make the seat reservation with any of the SBB travel center or upfront by calling the SBB contact center: +41 51 225 78 00.

From experience, a seat reservation is not absolutely mandatory, there are always free seats left.

The best views are from the right hand side facing the travel direction… After the stop at Meiringen the train reverses out of the station. But sit tight! Best views between there and Interlaken Ost are from the left which is where you will be sitting.

Hi Sir,

We are 2 adults and 1 child (11 year-old) going to buy a ticket and seat reservation from Zurich to Interlaken, via the Lucerne-Interlaken Panaroma Express. Our trip is on 23 June and we will be having a Half Fare Card. As I read, the child can travel free with this Half Fare Card.

So, my question is when I buy the ticket and seat reservation via shop.luzern.com/en/routing/zentralbahn, do I need to add my child as a passenger? (eventhough he can travel free). If yes, what should I tick in the Reduction box, there are 3 options: Only Reservation, No discount and Half Fare Travelcard. Need your expert advise. Thank you so much!

Your child need a ticket if he is over 6 years old. He can only travel for free if you buy the Swiss Travel Pass or a Junior Card for him. If you want a seatreservation the child need also to pay for it, also if he has for example the Junior Card or Swiss Family Card.
