How to reserve a seat

Hello (G’day) everyone, an Australian here
I am looking for information about securing seats on specific trains.
I have read FAQs and used the internet, without success unfortunately.
I have purchased day saver passes for my partner and myself, and am looking to travel from Zurich to Grindelwald and return.
I am looking at the IC81 from Zurich to Interlaken and then the R61 onto Grindelwald.
However, I cannot see where/how I can secure a seat on the relevant legs.
I do note that seats on most trains are not able to booked.
is this the case with these two services?

You could only reserve a seat on the IC train, not on regional services such as RE, R, or S.

A Swiss would not reserve a seat for this trip, not for two people.

If you still want reserving a seat:

SBB Mobile App:

go to tab ‘Plan’,
enter from ‘Zuerich HB’ to ‘Interlaken Ost’,
select the required connection,
select tickets,
enter passenger data using the pen displayed above the itinerary & save,
scroll down to option ’Reservation only (CHF 5.00 per passenger),
choose the seat,

If you were travelling Sydney to Newcastle, where would you “secure” seats? Just like in Australia trains in Switzerland are mass transit. You just go to the station, find your train, get on and look for free seats. You bought a pass that gives you unlimited use of all public transport in Switzerland. So just get on, and enjoy the ride. You could even do the outward and return parts via different routes.

Also, even if the IC81 would be already quite full when arriving at the airport (peak commute times), about half of the passengers already sitting in the train will leave it at the next Zurich main station stop 10 minutes later. Which means a good opportunity for moving to ‘better’ seats in case you were not so lucky after boarding the train at the airport station.
And that luck can be further improved beforehand by moving away from the escalators at the airport station platform, where most other flight passengers would usually remain grouped together. On the IC81 (typical configuration), the 2nd class is usually located at the front of the train (= away from the escalators) anyway.
