Seat Selection - Map of the Train Car

JuanArgentina

Hello everyone,

I’m buying a seat reservation in advance for my trip from Cadenazzo to Arth-Goldau on the IR46 train.

Some friends who visited in the past advised me to reserve a seat on the left side of the train to enjoy the best views. My question (and the reason I’m opening this post) is: how do I know the direction of travel on the seat selection map?

I couldn’t find a way to attach a picture of the map, but it’s the official SBB.ch seat selection layout.

Thanks in advance!

Krist

You don’t need to reserve seats. Just get on, and take a free seat on the left side.

Thanks Kris for your answer, but how about if i wanna do it…
How do i know the direction of the train in the Selection Seat Map…

Hello > JuanArgentina How do i know the direction of the train in the Selection Seat Map…

It is not possible, because the composition of the train is not known in advance. Sometimes carriage no. 1 may be at the front, and at other times at the rear.

Kind regards
Danhiel

Hi @Danhiel,

Thank you very much!

As someone who doesn’t travel very often, I just wanted to cover all my bases. I’ll take your advice and feel confident that we’ll get nice seats on the train.

Thanks again for the help!

Hello @JuanArgentina

Over the next few days, all connections I checked have the first class coaches pointing towards Zürich HB, and that is unlikely to change. So if you do reserve seats (which – again – I consider not needed at all), select them under the assumption that the first class is at the front of the train to maximize your chances that your reserved seats are indeed on the left hand side. But there is no guarantee, because the train can be flipped for instance if it needs to take another route than usual which might involve a flip of the direction of travel (this is very unlikely but still possible).
