Very short transfer time in Interlaken Ost

Hi. I’m about to travel from Spiez to Grindelwald this October. After buying the train ticket, I now realize I only have 7 minutes to transfer at Interlaken Ost (from platform 7 to platform 2B). Is this doable? I’m not familiar with platforms in Switzerland train stations so not sure how quickly I can move between those two?

This is more than doable, it will not take more than 2 minutes. Your timing is not yet synchronised with the one from the Swiss 🙂 You’ll see once you get here how efficient our public transportation is.

You can trust the timetable; it would not offer such a short change if it wasn’t doable. All stations have a minimum connection time, for Interlaken, 7 minutes is fairly enough. And, knowing from experience, you won’t be the only one doing this transfer.

Getting luggage, getting off the train, finding way to the other platform… only take no more than 2 minutes? I mean this is my first time in Europe and I have no experience of navigating in a train station like this before so is that even possible?

Is there some kind of underpass so we can move between platforms quickly? Are there signposts that show where to go?

You should not be worrying. You cannot imagine how efficient our public transport is until you have experienced it yourself.

It is a small station, and everything is well-signposted. In fact, it has the biggest panels I have ever seen in a station. Grindelwald, Wengen, and Lauterbrunnen are all very popular tourist destinations, and there are often hundreds of people changing trains.

Interlaken Ost The station has two underpasses, one with stairs, one with an incline plane (ramp).

When you arrive at Platform 2, simply make sure you are going to board the right train, watch out for the destination indicated on the coach.
