Tickets/Reservations - Travel with a bike

Hello, I have additional questions about travelling with a bike. I’ll be travelling from Zurich to Lucerne by train. Here are my questions…….

1. When I make reservations for myself, do I need to reserve a place for my bike?

2. Do you prefer the bike to be in a travel box or assembled? Is there a difference in price?

3. How do I get the bike on the train? Is there a special train car and I put the bike in that train car?

4. If the bike is in a train car or is not able to travel with me, how do I prevent the bike from being stolen?

When traveling by train, you need a half-price ticket for your bicycle, provided that the front wheel is not dismounted and the bicycle is in a transport bag. In this case, transportation would be free and it counts as hand luggage.

It is the passenger’s responsibility to make sure that a reservation for a whole bicycle is necessary and to supervise it on the train. You can see in the timetable in the description whether it is necessary to make a reservation or not.

You will usually receive information from the train staff before boarding where you can board or you open the train information on the SBB mobile app / website.

I don’t understand.

1. If my bike is in a travel bike box, do I need to make a reservation for the bike? If so, what is the cost?

2. I downloaded the sbb app and I don’t see anything that tells me if the train requires a reservation.
