Is it possible to make a seat reservation for the EC train from Basel SBB to Lugano, departing 11:02, arriving 13:58 (20-June)?

Yes, it is possible to make a seat reservation on the EC Train. You can do it on the phone with a credit card 0848 44 66 88 (CHF0.08/Min.) or at any ticket counter in Switzerland.

However, if your travel plans allow it, I recommend you rather switch to an IC connection, because the EuroCity trains are often booked all the way to Italy and are therefore very busy.

It looks like there are no other direct connections from Basel to Lugano on 20-June, except for one early morning IC. Do you have a recommendation for a connection, leaving Basel sometime between 11:00 and 14:00?

Direct connections are only possible with EC trains. The alternative of my colleague are for example 11h42 and 13h42 with change from IR Basel to Zurich to IC Zurich Lugano.
