Conditions for ukrainian refugees

Dear SBB team, according to an article in 20 Minuten Ukrainian refugees can use SBB trains for free. Is this correct? How does this work in practice? (routes, required documents, procedures, etc.)

Yes, it is correct that refugees from Ukraine can use public transport free of charge for entry to their destination in Switzerland or transit.

The decision was taken in line with the decisions of the Federal Council of 28 February 2022 and in consultation with the State Secretariat for Migration (SEM) and European partner railroads (including Deutsche Bahn and Austrian Federal Railways). They only need to show their passport to the controller on the trains.

Dear Sirs,

Unfortunately, that is not always fulfilled. I had to pay for the ticket, even after showing a passport of Ukraine. I had a very long discussion with Herr F. Odermatt (SBB controller), that refused to accept the above mentioned decision. You should really enforce the rules.

I would like to clarify if the rules have been accepted and where we can find the official statement as we see Vitaliy’s response that he had some problems and he paid for tickects despite the decision that allows Ukrainians to travel for free.
