If I am travelling in to Switzerland from Germany, on a Deutsche Bahn service that is delayed, and I then miss my connection to an SBB train, will I be able to use the same ticket to take the next SBB service, or do I need to purchase a new ticket? (eg: Hannover to Bern via Basel)

As a general rule: If your train is delayed in Germany, you must have this confirmed by the train staff from Deutsche Bahn. Once the delay has been confirmed by staff, you can use the next possible connection.
