Point to Point vs Saver day Pass

Hello, we wish to travel Zurich to Lugano Sept 7th, then Lugano to Venice Sept 10th. In both cases, are we best to purchase point to point tickets for all of us (2 adults, 1 child) for a specific train time (would prefer direct)? Or should we purchase a saver day pass? Can we select our seats with either option? And am I correct in thinking that September express trains will not become available until June? thank you

For this connection, I do suggest a direct ticket from Zurich HB to Venezia. It also includes the mandatory seat reservation for Italy. A Saver Day Pass is not recommended for this travel.

RolandP thank you :-) As we are spending 3 nights in Lugano, I gather we would be best to travel on a point-to-point fare Zurich to Lugano, then a separate ticket Lugano to Venezia? Or is there a way we can book a through fare to Venezia with a 3 day stop in Lugano? Thanks again for your help

If you are stopping over in Lugano for a few days you need two tickets, indeed. The days that international tickets were valid for 2 months and allowed you full flexibility during that time are over…

So book Zurich (or Zurich airport if that is where you start) to Lugano separately. You will usually be offered three options:

Point to Point ticket: That is not for a particular departure, even though you start the purchase process selecting one. This ticket is good for any train on the route.
Supersaver ticket: This is often cheaper, but only good for a single departure time. So not a good idea when arriving by plane.
Saver Day Pass: If that is the cheapest offer, get it. Good for all public transit in Switzerland for a whole day.
