Zuenauderr27 Hello, we are a family of 3 traveling in early June, with a six year old. Planning to get the Half Fare Card but wondering if it’s worth adding the BO pass as well, we really only have 3 days in the area, staying in Wengen (does the city pass cover much there?). It’s $366 w/ half fare card for the 3 day BO pass. This is our itinerary (below). Not really sure what we’re doing while in the BO area though, not likely Jungfrau but more easier hikes and playgrounds, waterfall. Is the half fare card alone the best option? or half fare plus BO pass? Thanks for the help.
Day 1: Arrive Zurich evening, staying near airport
Day 2: Luzern, probably city tour / chocolate factory
Day 3: Either Titlis or Pilatus, travel to Wengen
Day 4: Wengen - probably Lauterbrunnen / Schilthorn
Day 5: Wengen - Männlichen to Kleine Scheidegg walk
Day 6: Wengen - maybe lake or Grindelwald
Day 7: Wengen - Zermatt
Day 8: Zermatt - Zurich
Day 9: Zurich to Innsbruck
Hello,
Swiss Half Fare Card:
The Swiss Half Fare Card allows you to travel throughout Switzerland at half price for trains, buses, boats, and most mountain lifts or railways. It’s ideal for short trips or excursions.
Advantages:
50% discount on train, bus, boat, and mountain lift fares.
Valid for one month.
Available for purchase online or at Swiss railway stations.
Children under 16 travel free with the Swiss Family Card.
Coverage: It covers the entire country, including the BO region.
Price: CHF 120 per month.
Recommendation: Since you’re staying in Wengen and exploring the BO area, the Swiss Half Fare Card alone is a good choice. It provides flexibility and discounts for your entire trip.
Berner Oberland Pass (BO Pass):
The BO Pass is specifically designed for the BO region and offers unlimited travel within the area.
Advantages:
Unlimited travel for 3 to 8 consecutive days in the BO region.
Includes trains, buses, boats, cableways, and cogwheel trains.
Discounts on attractions.
Children travel along at a low fixed rate.
Coverage: Valid for the BO region, including Wengen, Grindelwald, Lauterbrunnen, and more.
Price (2024):
3 days: CHF 240
4 days: CHF 280
6 days: CHF 350
8 days: CHF 395
Recommendation: If you plan to explore the BO region extensively and visit attractions like Schilthorn, consider adding the BO Pass to your Swiss Half Fare Card. Otherwise, the Swiss Half Fare Card alone should suffice for your itinerary.
Jungfrau Travel Pass:
This pass covers the Jungfrau Region (Interlaken, Grindelwald, Lauterbrunnen, Mürren, Wengen) and includes unlimited travel for 3 to 8 consecutive days.
Advantages:
Valid for trains, boats on Lake Brienz and Lake Thun, and cableways.
Discounts on Jungfraujoch and Schilthorn trips.
Coverage: Specifically for the Jungfrau Region.
Price (2024):
3 days: CHF 210
4 days: CHF 235
6 days: CHF 290
Recommendation: If you’re mainly exploring the Jungfrau Region, this pass complements the Swiss Half Fare Card well.
I hope the information may helps you.
