Regarding the zones for both commute itinerarires:
When you or your wife commute, the affected 4-5 Mobilis zones are mentioned on both the regular return ticket (= day pass) and the corresponding monthly travelcard. Just look up and check a Mobilis zone plan. With such a zone ticket or pass, you have free unlimited travel within those zones, i.e. back and forth as many times as you like within the validity period.
So from now on you would use the half fare card only for occasional leisure travel tickets outside of those commute zones. (To be exact, from the last stop where the train is stopping within your commute zones on the way to the destination, as the travel from home to that last stop is also covered by the monthly pass.) Now it’s up to you to calculate whether it’s still worth renewing the half fare card when it will expire. For this, your ticket costs outside your commute zones would need to exceed 170.- per year using half fare prices, or 340.- full fare.
