Seat Reservation on replacement bus with Eurail pass

I have a Eurail Global Pass and want to travel from Geneva to Florence in mid July 2024.
I can see there is construction work and bus replacements. Do you know how to book the seat reservation for the Geneva-Milan leg of this trip?

CJB20 It seems that a direct replacement bus is now running from Geneva to Milan. You can book this bus on raileurope.com with the Eurail reduction, it costs 13 €.

You can also take a train to Domodossola and the replacement bus from Domodossola to Milan, but it seems not possible to book the bus with the Eurail reduction. You can book this bus on trenitalia.com, it costs also 13 €.

If you prefer make the entire trip by train, I suggest to take the route Geneva - Lucerne - Lugano - Milan (without reservation with a regional train between Lugano and Milan) or Geneva - Zurich - Milan (with mandatory reservation in the Eurocity trains Zurich - Milan).

As you are travelling with Eurail pass you will find offers at ticketshop raileurope.com.

Ticket fares for Eurail Pass holders are flexibel. If missing connecting trains you could exchange for next frecciarossa with available seats.

do you know if those replacement bus are usually on time? As it is by road I’m worried a 40min stopover in Milan is not enough to allow for delay with traffic?

CJB20 Sorry, I don’t know if this bus I usually on time, It is unpredictable. You can plan a longer stopover in Milan or exchange you reservation between Milan and Florence at the ticket office in Milan if the bus is late.

An other option is to load your Trenitalia ticket between Milan and Florence in the Trenitalia app on your mobile phone with the PNR and your email address. After this, you can manage it in the app, choose another train before departure, but it will no more possible to obtain a refund after the first exchange. You can load the ticket in advance.
