Reservations for trains between Innsbruck and Zurich

I am wanting to travel from innsbruck to zurich on the 20th October, I have the eurail global pass 1st class already just want to reserve some seats on the train departing innsbruck at 09.47 RJX368 train. However I can not seem to find a site that will let me, I am finding conflicting results some ticket sites are saying I don’t need to reserve I’m good to go, however other sites are saying it’s a busy travel day that day and that I need a reservation or I will not be able to travel? Any help / guidance / clarification will be greatly accepted. Cheers

AussieAndy If you want to reserve seats, make it on oebb.at and not on Eurail. You will spare the fee of 2 € and the reservations are sometimes online cancelable if you change your plan. But don’t get your tickets in advance, after this you cannot cancel them.

On oebb.at you can chose the seats. If you take the train with the panoramic car, be sure to indicate that you want a seat in this car, the other ones are normal cars.

October is a long time away. If you are the kind of person that wants to fix train travel months in advance an Eurail Pass is the wrong product for you. The Eurail Pass is for people who want flexibility.

With your Eurail Pass you will be able to travel, unless something happens that closes the railway line, but that is not something you can foresee now. The only thing you risk without a seat reservation is not having a seat. Starting from Zurich that risk is low however. You can however always go to a station a few days beforehand and reserve a seat. No need to worry about that now.

I would suggest you take the morning EC that leaves at 8:40, as that has a very nice first class panoramic car.

Thank you for your response, we are using the Eurail passes as we are travelling all of Europe for 3 months. making over 30 train trips.
and we are travelling FROM Innsbruck to Zurich not from Zurich to Innsbruck, so the 8:40 train you suggested is the wrong direction.

Thank you for your response, we are indeed using the OEBB.AT for our bookings of seat reservations and certainly have booked and reserved panoramic car seats for our trip into Innsbruck. am just concerned for the reservation of seats on way back to Zurich as it is actually the oebb site that is saying it is a busy travel day for the day we wish to travel and that only reserved seating will be allowed to travel on that day.

AussieAndy Most trains have a second part of the train who stays in Feldkirch or continue to Bregenz, try to book only to Feldkirch, you will have a seat until this station.

If you are prepared, you can change in Feldkirch and take the Swiss part of the train or you can continue with other regionals trains, Bregenz - St. Margrethen - Zürich is an alternative.

But your example is for today, not for the 20th October. My advice is valid only for last minute reservations when the train to Zurich is sold out.

For travel on October 20ieth you can safely wait till early October with reserving. You can even do this at the station once you are in Austria. That all seats are sold out months in advance is something that just does not happen. Trains would be useless if it was necessary to book several days in advance.

Krist For Austria, I suggest to reserve seats as soon as possible, for two reasons:

— You can choose your favorite seats on a diagram in the Railjets and you have more choice at the beginning of the reservations.

— In Austria, reservations are now partially or totally refundable until the day before departure if you change your plans. But don’t get the tickets in advance to preserve this possibility.

Yes, but if you can’t reserve right now for a train in October I would stop fussing about it, and just wait till August or so…
