[INFO] Construction work Zurich Airport station | weekends Jan / Feb 2025

Due to construction work at Zurich Airport station, train services will be restricted on four weekends from 17 January to 10 February 2025. The construction work will result in train cancellations and changed journey times. SBB recommends consulting the online timetable before travelling.

We have purchased Saver Day pass tickets from Zurich Airport to Zermatt on Saturday Feb1 around 12:30 PM. The first stop/transfer is Zurich HB station. We have 5 people, skis, boots, luggage etc. Will this be affected by the construction at the airport? The website says “your journey will be diverted”. Can anyone explain what this message means ?

Welcome to the SBB Forum.

It means that there are no direct long-distance services from Zurich Airport, as stated above.

And yes, you are affected as well. You must take the S2 train to Zurich HB and change there again to take the IC to Visp.

From/to the airport, the S2 train will not follow the regular route to Zurich HB yet take a detour. Consequently, although it is a direct service to Zurich HB, the journey takes 10 minutes more. All in all, the journey will be longer than usual. Check your connection at sbb.ch/en.

Pack your stuff in such a way that your baggage allows easy train transfers. Alternatively, you could also rent the ski equipment here.

RolandP OK. Thank you very much for the quick response. So we can still board at the Zurich Airport train station and travel to Zurich HB- it will just take 10 minutes longer ? That will not be a big problem. Thank you for clarifying. We were worried that the airport train station was closed and we would have to take a cab to Oerlikon and start there. Thanks again for clarifying.

Yes, the airport station is still accessible for the S2 trains, although it requires them to take a detour.

And is that extra 10 minutes accounted for already in the schedule? Or does that mean our connection at Zurich HB will be 10 minutes less than it shows on the ticket ?

The online timetable already reflects the construction works and therefore includes the longer travel time. Without the construction works, the travel time to Zurich Maintstation would be 9 minutes only.

For some people, however, the extended travel time to Zurich Mainstation may mean they will miss their connection at Zurich HB which would be perfectly doable if the train would operate normally.
