saver day pass for travel and day trips from Lucerne to Grindelwald

Hello. Thank you for the advice. I arrive in Luzern on Nov 15 from Venice. On Nov 16 plan to visit Mt Rig and see the sights of Luzern. Can I use a saver day pass to go to Mt Rig and Lake rides in the area?

On Nov 17, leaving Luzern and do day trips visiting Lauterbrunnen, Murren, Interlaken and Grindelwald, with overnight stays in Grindelwald. Can I purchase a saver day pass for the Nov 17 trip from Luzern to Grindelwald and also use the pass to visit Murren, Lauterrunnen and surrounding area? If I use the Saver Day pass , can I just go on the train without booking on SBB site? Will saver day pass allow boarding on the Luzern Interlaken express ( Panoramic )?

Nov 18 … enjoy Grindelwald for the day and relax

Nov 19 .. leaving by train to Paris. Hoping to do the Interlaken to Montreux route for the PE scenic route and onto Paris

Yes, Saver Day Passes are valid for these destinations (Grindelwald - Lauterbrunnen only via Zweilütschinen). Be sure to select the full price and note that they are not refundable. If the weather is bad it gives you also the possibility to change your plans and visit other places.

You can take the Luzern Interlaken Express without any reservation, but note that a part of line will be closed. You will have replacement buses from Meiringen to Interlaken.

From Interlaken to Montreux a seat reservation is recommended if you want to take the Goldenpass Express. You can buy the Saver Day Pass separately and only reserve a seat here:

Please note that in Mürren, the Saver Day Pass is not valid on the cable cars above the village towards Schilthorn. Touristic mountain rides (to not permanently populated summits) are generally not included, Mt. Rigi being one of the few exceptions to that rule.

Regular trains (or other public transportation) are never ‘booked’ when buying some ticket or pass, the latter are just an admission fee for getting a ride during the validity period of the ticket. See also our following blog article:

Danhiel thank you for your advise! I wasn’t sure about the detour for the line closure through Meiringen. I was about to take alternate route up from Luzern through Olsen or Basel due to line closure via Meiringen. Do you still recommend the Luzern Interlaken Express despite the bus replacement, which the saver day pass will be accepted? And I will definitely make a reservation for the Goldenpass Express. Thank you kindly for your tips

Note that if you are planning to buy saver day passes for 4 days you may be better off just getting a Swiss Travel Pass. The STP has the advantage of being refundable, and it gives you a discount on most mountain railways.

It could depend of the weather. If it is good, you could travel via Meiringen to see the landscape. If it is bad, you could travel via Bern. Via Basel only if you want to visit this city, otherwise you can change in Olten.

Both Mürren and Wengen are populated places, people DO actually live there permanently. Therefore the cable cars and cogwheel trains connecting those places with the valley floor are considered as public transportation (not as purely touristic leisure rides), especially because of the lack of public access roads. So public transportation passes like the Saver Day Pass are valid up to those villages as well, just NOT further up (Schilthorn, Männlichen, Kleine Scheidegg/Jungfraujoch).
