Booking a ticket from Zurich Airport to Zermatt

Hello. I am trying to book a ticket from Zurich Airport to Zermatt. When I put in point to point 1st class it shows me one price. But when I go to checkout it nearly doubles. Any suggestions? Currently its saying 500 for RT ticket which seems incredibly high. Thank you very much.

The price initally displayed as part of the connection overview is a “From”-price, the cheapest price possible. This being either a Supersaver ticket or a ticket which requires the Half Fare Card (½) in addition. Most people living in Switzerland own the Half Fare Card.

Supersaver tickets are not recommended if you arrive by air and connect to a train.

Without knowing the total number of persons travelling as well as their age we cannot verify the total cost. If you want us to help you, please tell us the date of travel and before-mentioned details.

Hello RolandP thank you for the kind response. There are 5 adults. On 1st February. We were looking for a flexible fare in first class but it seems too expensive without the Card. We want 1 transfer. There is an 9:45 and 11:45. We land at 8:30a so wanted the flexibility if we can make the 9:45 understanding most likely we will need the 11:45a. What would you suggest to be the cost efficient and safest way to book to ensure we have a seat? Flexible second class? Thank you for sharing your knowledge.

ksap It looks like right now the cheapest option without a half fare card is the “Saver Day Pass” for CHF 148 in 1st or 61 in 2nd. This type of ticket is good on any train on a specific day so you don’t have to worry about your flight being delayed. These prices do increase closer to departure, and they’re nonrefundable. You can buy a half fare travel card good for 1 month for CHF 120, this brings the saver day pass prices down to CHF 49/82, but combined with the price differential for the trip back to Zurich it may be economical.
